Participate in Brisbane's Big Butterfly Count!

Survey No 1 (of 3) at the Mt Coot-tha's hill-topping site should be a special event. At this location butterflies congregate to find their mating partners. There usually is an abundance of them.

This is also a Habitat Brisbane registered bushcare site where the rehabilitation group, under leadership of entomologist Dr Justin Cappadonna, endeavours to establish improved habitat conditions.

Justin will guide all participants through the techniques of doing a survey based on species diversity.

There is usually a good crowd of butterfly enthusiasts on top of the Mount eager to participate, to learn, and to swing a net.

Let's see whether species can be added to last year's survey outcomes. See whether you encounter the beautiful Clearwing Swallowtail, the Orange Ringlet or any of the other beauties who are regulars on Mt Coot-tha.

Meet at the yellow gates at the top of the Reservoir Trail (there is also a carpark) not far from the Summit Lookout, off Sir Samuel Griffith Drive.

BYO water, wear protective clothing, closed sturdy shoes. Don't forget the sunscreen.

We have nets for you to actively participate.

Our surveys are for the entire family. They are fun, but also a great learning opportunity.
